Re-Engaging Philanthropy in the Fight to End HomelessnessHistorically, many philanthropic foundations have not included homelessness among their funding priorities and giving in the area of homelessness has represented only a fraction of total philanthropy. Concerned by the apparent lack of a concerted response to homelessness from the philanthropic sector, The National Center convened a group of influential foundations to spearhead Re-Engaging Philanthropy in the Fight to End Homelessness to inform the philanthropic community about homelessness and the role philanthropy has played in addressing this problem over time, provide foundations with specific giving strategies to help prevent and end homelessness, and chart a course for expanded philanthropic work in the future. The National Advisory Committee included: Boston Foundation, Butler Family Fund, Annie E. Casey Foundation, Chicago Community Trust, Fannie Mae Foundation, Paul and Phyllis Fireman Charitable Foundation, Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Morris and Esther Horowitz Family Philanthropic Fund, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Linden Foundation, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, McKnight Foundation, San Francisco Foundation, and Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation. This national effort spawned similar, regional efforts to engage foundations in the fight to end homelessness. |
