Community Circles of Support for Veterans' Families

Community Circles of Support for Veterans' Families (Community Circles) was created by The National Center on Family Homelessness in partnership with Drs. Candice Monson and Steffany Fredman of the National Center on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This multi-site demonstration project was designed for use by community-based organizations. The intervention was targeted to veterans as well as geographically dispersed demobilizing Air/Army Reserve and National Guard.

This clinical intervention - designed to support returning veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and mild Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) - pairs the veteran with a relative or a friend. This structure enables the veteran and family member/friend to address the symptoms of PTSD together. Please see pages 32-29 of Engaging Veterans and Families to Enhance Service Delivery: A Toolkit for Community-Based Organizations for a full description of the program. The Community Circles demonstration project ran from 2009-2010 and was made possible by funding from The Walmart Foundation.
